Smallholder Programme
Gathering information at scale at smallholder level can be time consuming, expensive and inaccurate – we get it.
The VIVE Smallholder Programme is designed to be the first step on a journey of continuous improvement enabling small holders to start recording and demonstrating their sustainable practices.
Who can participate?
The programme is tailored to farms less than 15 hectares in size.
How does it work?
Our Smallholder Programme has been developed to enable smallholders to demonstrate compliance to The Coca-Cola Company SAGP requirements.
Farmers use:
- Cloud based smart technology, deployed by mill extension officers to make the collection of farm level data cost effective.
- Remote in-field data capture via smartphones uploaded and stored into a secure cloud-based system.
Participating mills can use the VIVE Smallholder programme survey results to demonstrate 1-to-1 relationships with supplying smallholders and meet end-buyers’ requirements.
Our assessments
VIVE recognises that participants will be at different stages in their sustainability journey with different priorities. The VIVE programme is made up of three steps representing a gradual path to sustainability which can be tailored to each participant.
VIVE is flexible with three levels of achievement:
Step 1 - Foundation Level
For businesses starting their sustainability journey. To achieve foundation level, participants need to fulfil 50% of the VIVE criteria.
Step 2 - Claim Level
For businesses that fulfil 75% of the VIVE criteria and the requirements of the industry standard. Claim Level is benchmarked to multiple globally recognised sustainability programmes.
Step 3 - Excellence Level
For businesses aiming to go above and beyond the essential sustainability requirements, fulfilling 100% of the VIVE criteria.
The VIVE Improvement Cycle
VIVE provides clear reporting, analysis and bespoke action plans, supported by independent third-party assessments ensure you have the full picture and know what to aim for and how. This clarity is attractive to third party investors.

VIVE measures every aspect of your supply chain to identify best practice and highlight areas for improvement.
02.Current performance
As a participant you can progress quickly, identifying accurately the gaps in your supply chain and choosing your Improvement Plan according to your resources and needs.
03. Highlighting excellence
VIVE highlights your areas of excellence and drives immediate Improvement through the supply chain.
As your journey evolves, programme modules can be added providing you with new sustainability targets to achieve, unlocking new benchmarks & commercial opportunities.
